Glamorous, outrageous fashion are not only reserved on the runway. Thanks to celebrity who adopt fashion that were once suitable only on the runway into their personal wardrobe. Not only do they wear it to parties and cocktails, they seem to inject it into their everyday wear. Who What Wear reported that Linday Lohan wear a glittery outerwear to meet her friends in New York.

How to wear them without looking too dressy?

Sparkly things like sequin clothing has the tendency to make you look too dressy. Here are some tips to not look overdressed
1. Tone down a sequin dress or top with outerwear
It may be Christmas season, but you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree that is lighted up. Tone your sequin dress down by wearing a dark outerwear over it. Think black, navy blue, dark brown.
2. Pair short sequin dress with tights
The trick to sport a sequin dress in your daily wear is to choose a short one. That will ensure that there won’t be too many sequins which will make you look more extravagant than you intended.
3. Forget about statement accessories
The sequin wear is loud enough. Put away the bib necklace, gladiator shoe and feather headband of yours.
4. Wear a simple hairdo
You can curl your hair or straightened it. You can wear a ponytail or a bun. But never do something outrageous to your hair such as styling it into a bow like Lady Gaga (except if your very point is to look flamboyant)

Trend Alert: Peplum

Rihanna, Diane Kruger, Whitney Port and many other celebrities are wearing it. Peplum was popular in the 40’s and it is now coming back! It was love at first sight for us when we first notice peplum skirts/dresses. The flare around the waist makes an otherwise plain dress fancy but yet not flamboyant.

What is?

Peplum, according to wikipedia, is a ’short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress’.

How to wear?

Peplum can be quite a headache to wear if you don’t know how. Here are some tips.
1. Make sure other areas are body fitting
As the short overshirt flares out, make sure the other areas of the dresses are bodyfitting
2. Wear a contrasting clincher
Peplums are not exactly flattering to the waist. Wear a contrasting clincher to add emphasis on it.
3. Pick a monochromatic dress
If the silhouette of the peplum dress intimidates you, find a monochromatic instead of a patterned dress.
4. Pair a peplum skirt with a body fitting tank top
As we’ve said, peplums are rather fancy. Tone a peplum skirt down with a casual top. You’ll never go wrong with a black or white tank top.

Trend Alert: Lace

I’ve always thought lace are made for mature ladies. That was especially seeing Michelle Obama wearing a yellow laced suit on the inauguration day. But boy was I wrong! Mywifefashion was right, flirty little dresses makes you look anything like a little old lady! Laced clothing, when wear properly, can pull different looks whether elegant, proper or even sexy. Look at Rihanna!

Tips for wearing lace

So how to wear this trend and not look like an old lady? Here’s some tips
1. Get a mini lace dress
Make sure you get a lace dress above your knee. Long and loose lace dresses will look like you’re stuck in the Victorian era. If it’s white, you might be mistaken for a bride!

2. Wear a laced top with bodycon skirt
Wear a laced top with a bodycon skirt. Be bold with the colours. Think lemon yellow, bright red or even neon green if you dare.

3. Pair it with jeans
The easiest  way to wear a lace top is to pair it with  jeans. The trick is pairing a lace top with something more contemporary.

4. Don’t wear any other vintage accessories
Forget vintage bags or chandelier earrings. Get a cute clutch or stud earring instead.

5. Keep outfit simple
Lace clothing are fancy in itself already. Keep the entire outfit simple. Never pair it with anything eye-catching such as florals or animal prints

Trend Alert: Leather Jacket

One of the downside of living in a tropical country is that we miss out wearing a lot of clothing suitable for colder weather! I was never please to see a lot of amazing collections from designers for fall/winter. Gee, which person in their right mind wear boots or leather jacket in sunny Malaysia? But hey, why not? We’ve seen so many celebrities looking so good in leather jacket and we shouldn’t let the weather (or other’s opinion) stop us from dressing up the way we want to.

Where to wear a leather jacket?

1. Clubs and bars. Since everyone is usually dressy there, you’ll fit right in!

2. Malls and Cinemas I dont’ know about you but I always find the air-conditioning in cinemas and malls are too strong. Instead of covering yourself with a shawl or snuggle to your boyfriend, why not wear a leather jacket instead?

3. Dress up/fashion parties. Need I say more?

How to wear it?

1. Wear the jacket with dark skinny jeans, oversized tank top, sky high heels, huge bag and lots of accessories. If you really want to  pull off the bad-girl look ala Georgiona Sparks in Gossipgirls, put on dark nail polish and do the smoky eyes.

2. Don’t fancy the punk-rock style? Tone it down with a mini dress and a pump. If Alexa Chung’s style is too ‘dark’ for you. Replace the little black dress with  neutral colour mini dress and a coloured peep-toe.

3. Or go effortless like Kate Moss with a glossy legging, a white tank top and a cute clutch.
